John, Yup, they're the same thing. Note the chip version next to the BIOS version on the top line during bootup. The chip version is the set of numbers at the right top… mine says (besides that it's BIOS v3.4) 380 788 04 Don

Don, Then could it somehow be my serial port at fault? I have a generic serial port that seems to work for all other purposes. Is the baud rate timing done by the serial port itself? Could it be off causing this problem. Since we have identical hardware, I can't see any difference except the serial port… John

John, yup…could be if your serial board has no, or very, very little in the way of a buffer. But, it could also be a quirk in your BB, wrong flowcontrol settings, wrong parity or word size, etc. Don
