Well yes to make USE of the comment field we would have to agree on a standard. Keep in mind that it's a comment, so it's SUPPOSED to be ignored unless the DXF processor knows that specific comments mean specific things. So in theory it would not break anything. I say theory because we have found more than one DXF processor that chokes on comments (apparently ACAD does not put them in, even though they are in the spec, everyone tests with acad, and thus never encounters comments… Of course you should write to the spec, but you know how that goes…) The key then would be for Yost and us to agree on what comments to use where to enable us to trade entities that ACAD doesn't support (like 3D Faces with more than 4 verticies, Holes, etc.) As long as it works for us, then we create a de-facto standard that anyone else can join in on if they want.

Actually, instead of using the 999 codes for this data, extended entity data would be better. That way it will be able to travel in and out of AutoCAD without alteration. -GB-
