#Twips and screen size

Hi Don Payette, The scalemode TWIPS is a scale that converts exactly to 1440 twips to the inch. This was designed so that you could print items in exact demisions without having to worry about the resolution of the printer in use at the time…device independency. What I want is twips to work on the SCREEN the same way it works for a PRINTER. Why MSoft is so printer oriented is beyond me. Hopefully, the office of the future won't use paper at all. Oops, I guess I slipped onto my soap box, sorry. I'll live with the windows limitation, I guess. don There are 2 Replies.

Hi, Paper seems to be a cruch for alot of companies. My wifes company is a national construction company and they still don't use there e-mail! They still have to print out everything and so many times the printer does not work on the network. It even went down right before a mutli-million dollar bid and boy did they run haveck! Don, I left Dupont last year and a very high percentage of "written" communication was via Email in our department (probably around 95%). However, it didn't seem to reduce paper consumption at all … in fact it probably increased significantly. EMail improved communication by eliminating transit times and making it easier for informal written communication. Paper consumption for the folks I worked with went up because the receiver usually printed what he got … and he got more stuff. Email improves effectiveness (significantly IMHO) but if somethinks they're saving trees, forget it. Computers are the best thing for the paper industry since toilet paper. Dan.
