Daivd, If the copyright owner want's too much, someone will comeout with the same material cheaper and the copyright owner will get squat, since i, along with most others, will buy from someone else. I think pc users, particularly those with good hardware and who are adding CD-ROM's are too sophisticated to believe that there is only 1 encyclopedia, only 1 dictionary, only 1 reference library, etc. In other words: GET REAL – this is the 1990's and CDROM is fast becoming a commodity product. Cut prices or go out of business. If you're authors want too much, go to another author. We're not talking esoteric technology here. Soon you'll have garage-type cdrom operations, who will sell in the LE $100 range, and either you'll come around or go belly up. Things are changing rapidly, and "it doesn' take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." If most cds are sold to families or corps, then piracy is also much less likely – in fact, a red herring. Come on now, no more BS – someone's got high profit margins here, and they're going to have to come down. DAK's done a great service in making CD affordable, as well as being responsive on this forum. Hopefully, others will follow suit. If not, no sympathy from me, and no golden parachutes in Chapter 11 (or 13). –ed There is 1 Reply.

Ed: You are right on the money with your comments! Some months back, there was a long thread about an editorial that Dvorak had written flaming about high CD prices! I agreed with him and got a lot of flak on my comments, from CD publishers who are [still] selling stuff in the many thousands of dollars per CD, and basically did not care about selling higher volumes at lower cost to the general public (who are starting to get CD ROM players). I decided that the right thing to do was to compete, so I have been talking with some venture capitalist friends about starting a company to do just that (at lower prices obviously). I'll keep y'all posted if something pans out! Z
