#.EXE files Problem
6 messages in this thread
Dear Sysop, Heard from Betty earlier about running LHARC.EXE. I tried it
exactly as she suggested renamed as LHARC:
LHARC -m -x x filename. I STILL get the error message:
unable to load LHARC: file is not an object module
She suggested archlp.exe. I downloaded that and get the same errormessage
when I try to run it. Do those files have to be processed some way before
they run? I tried the ancient fixobj. It told me No corrections made!
What do I need to do to get those files to run?
Please advise me on reading GIF files. I downloaded compch.gif from the
TapRoom in the TAPCIS forum. The quality was unbelievably low. I viewed
it with GIFfy2. What viewer and/or conver GIF -> IFF and IFF -> GIF do you
recommend? Have AMGIF2.LZH, but having the problem with LHARC.
Help!
Chris
Chris;
It sounds as though your copy of Lharc is bad. Assuming that your telcom
program is operating ok, you might want to try downloading Lharc.exe again.
You should be able to type "Lharc ?" and get a list of the commands and
switches for Lharc. If not then there is something wrong with your copy.
An assumption that I am making (could be significant if it is not correct):
You have only ONE file named Lharc on your system (or in the search paths).
Thanks Bill. Have downloaded LHARC twice. Will check modem program and
try again. What about the GIF questions? What do you recommend? Chris
Chris;
Gawk! What Amiga are you running? Floppy based or HD? What modem? What
terminal program?
For safety sake, you probably want to set the serial port for the modem
speed (2400 I hope), 8 data bits, 1 Stop bit, No Parity, RTS/CTS
handshaking. You then need a 7 seven wire cable between the modem and ami.
Were you using CIS QuickB transfer protocol?
As to GIF, I really can't help there. I have fooled around a little with
GIF but don't even remember what programs I used… the results were none
too good. I do understand that there are a number of programs around now
however that do a good job but I am in no position to know which.
As a 'last ditch' effort…. If you want to post me your address, I will
send you a copy of Lharc by US Snail.
Christopher,
What protocol are you using for downloads? The programs that end with
EXE should not have to have anything done to them in order to use them. To
make ARCHLP.EXE run you should be able to just type its name and it will
run (if it is in your current directory.)
Since you had problems with LHARC – I wonder if it was in your current
directory or path. You might have to do something to tell the Amiga where
to find it, such as RAM:LHARC -m -x , etc.
or DF1:LHARC -m -x x , etc.
It is always possible that you had a bad download, but I know the program
works. We just need to find out what is causing your particular problem.
Hang in there and keep telling us what goes wrong. We'll work it out.
Betty
What terminal parameters are you using, and which terminal program? The
parameters should be set to 8N1.
