#Problem w/Mammals

Brian, I just bought National Geographic "Mammals". The audio is all
screwed up- different sounds from each speaker. Their tech dept says that
the DAK unit is not compatible with this software. Is there a "fix" for
this? —-Dwight

It depends which CD-ROM drive you have. Version 2.2 of the MSCDEX/Sony
drivers fixes that problem on the external BSR CD-ROM drive (Sony 6201).
However, some earlier BSR units used the Sony 510 drive which doesn't
support the oddball track suppression used in Mammals. Instead of making a
true stereo sound track, they record some animals on the right track and
others on the left. That means one channel must always be suppressed
during, and not all drives have this capability. Mammals is the only
product I know of that has this feature/problem.
You can get a free copy of version 2.2 drivers from DAK customer support.

Bryan, Thanks for your help! I do have the external 6201 drive. I called
DAK customer support on Friday to order version 2.2 driver but they didn't
seem to understand what I needed. Is there anyone in particular over there
that I should speak to? —Dwight

I don't really know anyone in particular to tell you to talk to. I do know
they have the disk, and if you tell them you want the new Sony CD-ROM
drivers, version 2.2, that fixes the problem with Mammals, they should know
what to send you. If you still have a problem, let me know and I'll look
up the "real" name of the disk.
