#2.0 ROMs ALMOST here

I visited my dealer today…he got permission to go ahead with his
order for 2.0 Enhancer kits for A500/2000s today. Kits for the 3000 aren't
ready yet.
He had been told in the past that he couldn't place his order until
the product was actually ready to ship…so based on that….2.0 is
apparently ready to ship and they're taking orders!
If all the above is true…he should have it in within a week.

don – interesting. I received my developer 2.0 A500/2000 roms today which
were backordered for some time. Looks like maybe a full supply is on hand
at Commodore at long last! These have jumpers on 'em for use with older
2000 motherboards (which jumpers are to be removed for newer boards). Got
full set of official 2.04/37.175 disks with nice rainbow labels a few weeks
ago. Here's hoping for a mass availability of 2.0 for commercial
distribution in the next couple weeks. As I'm also a authorized Amiga
dealer I'm looking forward to getting the WORD from my distributor soon so
I can supply kits to customers.
My dealer in Illinois said today that Commodore issued a statement to
dealers telling them delivery would be in November. The price, he was
guessing, for the ROM and extras would be around $99.
The 2.0 Enhancer kits for the 500/2000 are (suggested retail) of $99. The
2.0 ROMs for the 3000 is $45. There is no word on A1000 support.
If you've got a 3000 and want the addendum to the manual, it's $19.95
— however, if your 3000 is still under warranty you should be able
to get it free thru the Gold Service plan.
i'll bet your dealer is pretty close to correct!~

Congratulations! My ROMs are still 'trickeling in.' I just received
another one yesterday but they still owe me one.

I think I have asked this here before, but here goes again. Do you think
there is any way to legally get 2.0 on disk for my A2000 with 030/28Mhz GVP
without being a developer? I would really like the option of switching, at
least for awhile. Also, just out of curiousity, what is required to become
a developer. I have thought about trying to write commercial or shareware
software if I ever get my programming skills to a suffient level.

There is no legal way you can get 2.0 on disk except from
Commodore.

don't know of any 'legal' way to get 2.0 on disk without being a
developer. to become a developer you first turn around 3 times, go
directly to jail without passing Go, whisper the secret incantation,
and click your heels together without moving your feet. Commodore
never even processed my application to become a commercial developer
despite my having about 8 Amiga products out there for years. Now
they're about to cut off my certified developer status because when I
sent in the renewal I forgot to put in a completely new application
form and a 'product' development plan. I think I tossed the developer
application because I was just renewing an existing status. They
returned my check. looks like I'd better recite the secret
incantation without ceasing. suffice it to say, if you aren't a for
real developer you might as well forget it – maybe you'd better forget
it even if you ARE a real developer! wish me luck communicating with
the Giant who lives at the end of this beanstalk.

The early A2000 machines require the jumper (one wire already added
across the ROM by Commodore), B2000 machines don't require it.
The jumper changes the location of line A17 to match A17 on the
ROM.
The jumper is also required on Rev 3 and 5 A500 motherboards.
Full instructions come with the new ROM.

So a 4.2 machine wouldn't need it? BTW, is this the same sort of ROM (in
terms of packaging) as the 1.2 and 1.3 roms? Thanks,

4.2 machines shouldn't need the jumper…so you simply cut it.
It's a wire that's already installed across the top of the ROM.
Yes…it's the same sort of ROM, that's why it fits and works in
the same socket.

i'm waiting for my DKB multistart before I begin installing the new
roms (I want to be able to use 1.3 when necessary). I only read the
instructions for the roms briefly – the jumpers are on the rom itself
and connect two of the pins. you cut the jumper for use with newer
American motherboards – leave in place for older and German
motherboards. At least that's the gist of it for A2000 use – I didn't
even look at the A500 installation instructions yet. It doesn't look
complicated, but don't quote me on the details. Wait for the
official ROM to come to your local dealer. I want to be prepared for
my customers needs so I'm going to take the plunge soon. I have no
way to know if the final commercial release ROMs will have the
jumpers or not – maybe they will be supplied both ways per the
dealer's order. pure speculation until we all see the official
commercial release. I only posted the news to encourage those who
think it will take as long for the 2.0 to appear as it did for the
Toaster. The light is beginning to become visible at the end of the
2.0 tunnel.
Dealers are having their orders accepted so I accept that the rom's
are coming soon. At least what we've been waiting for so long
appears to be one heck of an upgrade. And since I've been told here
that my Kronos should keep working ok I will install it.

My dealer was called yesterday by CBM and told that they have accepted all
his orders for enhancer kits as well. As for delivery, she told me it was
very, very, very, very, very close <grin>. When I was in the store about 3
weeks ago they already had about 4 dozen confirmed orders for the kit.
BTW, she also told me that CBM had set the retail price at $100 and they
are going to disount them to $89.95.

Add $33 (list) price for those of you with Commodore Accellerator
cards (A2620 or A2630). You'll need a new set of ROMs for the card also.
No idea on what the "normal" selling price will be or what dealer's will
charge to make the upgrade(s).
