Hi to all I have a little Q. How to wave a flag in the best way? The flag in the CD is not smooth enough and I need the flag to be in full screen and in a lot of frames so I need the morph to be very smooth. I have the waves.pxp and Mwave.pxp but I never had much success with them. With Help. Sus.

What do you mean, not smooth? I thought it was. Are you rendering to fields? Is the standard file too fast? Try to slomo it by scaling the file to greater number of frames and field render. If you were more specific as to what it was that didn't look right I might be of more help.

Hi Don. <<What do you mean, not smooth? I thought it was. Are you rendering to fields? Is the standard file too fast? Try to slomo it by scaling the file to greater number of frames and field render. I am not rendering to fields but I didn't mean that the animation wasn't smooth enough but the flag, I mean I need to have a flag with much much more faces for a good close-up. With Thanks Sus.

>>I mean I need to have a flag with much much more faces for a good close-up. OK, Now I understand. Try this: Tesselate the flag and you will get more faces so the bends will be finer. Of course, there goes the rendering speed but hey you wanted smoother bends in the flag's cloth right? Maybe others have some different approaches to this that won't be a hit on rendering speed.

Any suggestions? with thanks Sus

>>OK. so I have tesselated the flag, But how can I make it wave like a flag (with one side more stiffed) and not like a normal wave? Well that is not what you first asked. I thought you wanted the close up camera views to be smoother. The tesselation should help with that. Now you want to introduce multiple waves to the animation? Actually there several ways to do this, some more difficult than others. You can try to apply the IPAS twice to introduce a blend of smaller waves. Or an easier approach would be to start from scratch and use something like Mirage as an IXP and composite the new flag animation over the rest of your scene. Now that I recall the original flag animation did have a pretty random wave look to it. I used it in a project with a checker flag for a race track TV commercial and it looked pretty damn good by itself. You maybe doing something very wrong with it if you don't thing it looks real. I'm not sure I could improve on it at all.
