Hey, serindipity is the only reason I have for using encyclopedias any
more! You know Phillip Jose Farmer's definition of a bore? Someone who
looks up something in an encyclopedia, finds it, and then puts the
encyclopedia away.

Hah-Hah! That's a good one!
My principal use for encyclopedias is to find out just how big a subject
really is. I started my company's CD-ROM research by looking up CD-ROM in
an EB. The fact that the article was written in 1988 didn't bother me in
the least. When you are doing "boundry research", any article less than ten
years old is useful. It gave me keywords to use inside Reader's Guide and
on UMI's Proquest.
One result of my early research is that I bought my own CD-ROM drive, and a
copy of Magazine Rack <g>.
