#How to Sell/Buy?
8 messages in this thread
I recently posted a A2000 C for sale for $500 and got a taker. Now he is
nervous about sending me a check and I, likewise, would be hesitant to send
the computer before getting the money. We both want to do it, but also
protect ourselves.
This has to have come up before. How do people overcome this problem?
Thanks – Joe
Maybe you could send it to him COD? I'm not sure of the details, but you
could probably call UPS and ask them what's involved.

Send it COD and specify cash only. That way the other person doesn't hand
over the money until he sees the item, and cash doesn't bounce. Also if UPS
screws up and doesn't collect the cash, they're liable for amount they
didn't collect.
Ah, thanks … sometimes the simplest solutions are the hardest to find. –

Ship it UPS COD, the cod charge is only a couple dollars.

Joe,
Generally, COD requiring a bank check or cash is the way to handle such
transactions. As to which one of you pays the COD fee, that's up to you
to work out between yourselves. I've noticed from the postings here that
the seller generally accepts the COD fee in these transactions, but that's
just traditional, not a requirement.

Joe:
UPS COD (insured) is probably the best way. You can specify with UPS that
they must accept CASH or you can tell them to accept a certified check. If
the buyer is paying the shipping, you can also send it freight collect.
The only other alternative that I know of (letter of credit) isn't worth
the added expense. I've been lucky… I buy and sell al ot of stuff
throught the ads here and in the CIS classifieds, nearly all COD, and
haven't been burned once.

Joe,
Have the purchaser send you either a money order or a cashier's check –
which protects you. Or send the equipment COD which costs slightly more
but protects both of you.
