#cdrom recommendations

{Hello. I'm in the market for a CD/ROM drive, mainly to use for reference
material, especially graphics libraries of images… I've done a lot of
animation presentations for clients in the {past, and did some{work on an
Amiga including sound and such. I need something reliable, relatively fast
(graphics images are rather large in 256 color format…), and right down
the middle of the road in terms of standards. I use a lot of Windows
software now, but not exclusively.
Question is: any recommendations? The Hitachi series hav{ been mentioned.
I would be purchasing a sound board as well, ideally the latest Microsoft
sound board, which has been getting great reviews lately.
A SCSI CD-ROM drive is best for a long term investment and faster access.
You may want to wait until after COMDEX (Nov 16-20) before getting a CD-ROM
drive to see what new ones are introduced.
As a further suggestion, to back up Albert Dayes' to wait just a bit: you
ight want to look for a CDROM XA drive compatible with Photo-CD if you are
really into images. These should be available (at least, so the vendors
claim) by the end of the year.
