Haven't tried that so I don't know, David. I'm away from home and so can't
check the manual, but my recollection is that it says the terminating
resistors on the 1542 should be removed whenever both internal and external
SCSI devices are attached, and not when all attached devices are either
internal or external but not both. Maybe some sort of dummy terminator on
the external socket in place of the CDR-74 would work, but I'd check with
Adaptec if I were you. As I think I mentioned in my last message, they
have a knowledgable and helpful tech guy in the drives sec of IBMHW. Joe
