I don't know, David. Both the CDR-84 and the disk I drive with the 1542
are internal, and I haven't had occasion to use an external SCSI device
with the card. But I read the 1542 manual the same way you do. You might
want to post the question to Mike Behran from Adaptec in IBMHW (see my
prior message). Please let us know if there is a work-around so that you
don't have to fiddle with the termination resistors on the card.
