The following information was given to me last Spring by a friend who
works at Supra. The text is his, not mine.

A non-accelerated Amiga running AmigaDOS 1.3 can usually run 19200 if
the active screen only has a single bit-plane.
Running programs in the background may cause problems if the program
disables interrupts. (At 38400 baud turning off interrupts for 1/4 of a
milli-second will cause data to be dropped.)
Some hard disk interfaces can cause problems with high speed modems,
it seems they disable interrupts long enough to drop a character. (NOTE:
The Supra Series III SCSI driver code does not have this problem.) Some
really slow hard disks (ie. the really cheap Seagates) may also cause
problems, when used with some hard disk interfaces. We are still looking
into modem problems caused by hard disks and SCSI controllers, there isn't
a list of what works and what doesn't.

Note: For you purposes I believe that AmigaDOS v1.2 is the same as v1.3.
My understanding is that the only difference between v1.2 and 1.3 is that
1.3 could auto-boot on a hard drive.
I am running AmigaDOS v2.04 and have a SupraFAXmodem v.32bis, which works
flawlessly. I can comment that communication will be slower if you are
running anything else in the background that use much CPU.
