CompuServe Revises Standard Pricing Plan (09-Jan-95) CompuServe has announced new Standard Pricing Plan rates that significantly cut connect-time and mail charges, allow access to more basic services, reduce U.S. and Canadian WATS-line charges, eliminate European prime-time communications surcharges, and raise the monthly membership fee by $1. Effective 05-Feb, connect charges for access at 9.6 and 14.4 kilobits per second will drop by 50 percent to $4.80 per hour. This is CompuServe's third price reduction in connect-time rates in three years. At the same time, CompuServe will enhance its basic service package, giving members access to more than 100 services at no additional charge, compared to 78 previously. Members also will be able to send the equivalent of 90, three-page electronic mail messages at no additional charge, compared to 60 previously. Electronic mail costs have been reduced by as much as 80 percent. The monthly membership fee will increase by $1 to $9.95. The new fee will include free access to the Executive Service Option. ESO surcharges for specific products continue to apply. In Western Europe, the CompuServe network $7.70 per hour prime-time communications surcharge will be eliminated. In the United States, Wide Area Telephone Service surcharges will be cut by 31 percent to $6 per hour. The Canadian WATS-line charge will be cut by 41 percent to $20 per hour.
