A4000 in the UK

Well here it is, the first of the A4000`s to hit the street in the UK. It looks great but I`m still trying to get it set up. I seem to have two main problems; 1. Even with my new multisync (C= 1960) I`m still having to look at the flickering screen of AutoPilot. Setting Hi-res Laced from prefs has a similar effect. Playing around with the monitors drawers in the "Storage" and "Devs" drawers hasn`t really got me anywhere either, anyone any ideas? 2. On running SysInfo I notice that it is telling me the the filing system on my Hard disk is the "Old Filing System" it also tells me that I`m using a SCSI.device but there can be no doubt that HD transfer speeds are down on my A2000. From 1,200,000 bytes/sec on the A2000 to around 1,050,000 on the A4000. I`ve tryied copying the file "FastFileSystem" from the "l" directory in the 2000 to the "l" directory in the 4000 and then updating it with the the HDTools but I`m just told "l:FastFileSystem is not a file system". Any anwsers would be greatly welcomed. Greg :^)

Greg, I don't have a 4000 (I'm broke from upgrading my 2000) bu I have worked on the 4000 at my local dealer. Try selecting a screen mode that is specifically marked NO FLICKER. This will enable the flicker free software and improve your display. The 4000 does not have the flicker fixer in hardware, these screen modes (NTSC HIGH RES NO FLICKER) do it through software. Yes this is ok for the workbench screen but you still need to activate this option that I can't remermber the name to allow Dpaint and other programs to be in non interlace.

Thanks Peter for the advise on fixing the flicker on my A4000. I needed to copy the DBLPAL from the Storage drawer, take the PAL HIGH RES NO FLICKER and select Mode Promotion. Greg :^)

Greg, 1. Copy the 'Storage/Monitors/DblPal' file to your 'Devs/Monitors' drawer and reboot. Then in the ScreenMode preferences editor select the DblPal hires no flicker mode. Save this and you should be all set. Oh, one other thing, you may also want to set the 'mode promotion' gadget in the IControl preferences editor. 2. Ignore most of what SysInfo tells you. You are running the FastFileSystem out of the A4000's ROMs. Its just a different version than SysInfo understands. Also, The IDE drive in the A4000 is made to look like a SCSI device so that HDToolBox can be used to partition the drive. DO NOT attempt to use the FastFileSystem from an A2000 on your A4000, there is a good chance you'll mess up your hard drive. Dean DKB Software

Thanks Dean for all the info. That seems to have done the trick as far as the flicker is concerned. My only problem now is that my workbench screen doesn`t fill the border and the whole border is to the right of the monitor screen, even fully ajusted on the horizontal Phase. Thanks again Greg :^)

Greg, Try adjusting the 'Overscan' preferences for the DblNTSC modes, that might be able to make the adjustments you wish. Dean DKB Software

There is an option in the preferences that allows you to force a program to open a screen in flicker free mode but I have a memory blank and I can't remember it… it was something like "condition"
