I'd like to be able to read and write Unix 'tar' archive tapes on my Mac.
I've got an Exabyte 8500 5 gig 8mm tape drive. On the Mac, I have the
Softbackup II software for backups. On my PC and Amiga, I can use public
domain 'tar's. On these machines, there's a software driver that gives
nothing more than simple block-read, block-write support. On the PC, I
write to a file named 'mt0' and it writes to the tape, on the Amiga, I
write to a device named 'TAPE:'. While I've got a couple public-domain
'tar' for the Mac, neither says anything about tape drive support. Is
there PD or commercial software for 'tar' tape support, or is this handled
via AU/X?
