#where canibuy animator
8 messages in this thread
I am new to this forum. I just purchased soundblaster pro and would like
to do some multi media stuff with my targa board and autodesk animator. Can
anyone tell me how much this package costs and where I can find a copy of
it? I live in a small town in Maine and the computer age is not quite up
to date in this state. Any help would be appreciated. bobby c 76050,1365

Call Computersmith in Hudson NH at (800) 370-2670 ext 17. They are a
Multimedia dealer and can help with anything you might need.

Bob,
Two things: 1) Get Animator Pro, not the original Animator.
Animator Pro works with the Targa+ drivers Truevision provides. AND 2)
Remember tto configure the Soundblaster and Targa+ for different I/O
address (make it at least 20 apart (thus if the SB is @ 220, set the Targa+
for 240).

Hello Kevin.
I have Animator, the package is: Autodesk Multimedia Explorer and came with
the CD-ROM, it was a gift to me this past spring.
What is the difference between this package and Animator Pro?
I see that CompUSA still carries the same box, "Multimedia Explorer" and no
others – it is as though this is the most up-to-date release of the
Autodesk software packages. This area, Washington D.C., is fairly
state-of-the-art when it comes to computing.
What does 3-D Studio do? Are 3D-Studio and AniPro linked somehow (must I
have one to use the other)?
If I were to add 3-D Studio as a tool, must I upgrade to AniPro from my
existing resources?
I am interested in making 3-D effects, flicks. I am not so serious as to
import videotaped input and… it's a hobby, I design networks and
databases for a living and Autodesk is a personal creative outlet only.
Thanks.
Autodesk Animator is the initial release and is limited to 320×200
resolution. Animator Pro is resolution-independent, you can create flics as
large as your display device can handle. However, it requires an 80386
processor, minimum. It's considered a professional product, so you won't
see it in standard retail outlets, like Egghead. Like 3D Studio, Animator
Pro is sold only through multimedia dealerships. Call 800-525-2763 for the
number of a multimedia dealer nearest you.
3D Studio is a 3D modeling, rendering, and animation package. It's
completely self-contained and can produce anything from flics to
broadcast-quality animations or print-quality still images. You don't need
either Animator or Animator Pro to use 3D Studio, but you can use either.
You use the Animators to create texture maps or animated texture maps for
your 3D objects in 3D Studio. The higher resolution of Animator Pro is,
naturally, a better match for the quality of 3D Studio, though you can
create effective maps with the original Animator.
Oh, AniPro also has other new or improved features, including a built-in
C-like programming language to control its functions, improved tweening,
animated cels, etc..

Oops. I've really got to start looking at to whom these messages are
addressed. I just kinda assume that they're all addressed to _me_. <g>
