#Multiple Rotoscoping

I just wrote a utility that will allow you to rotoscope up to 50 different
video segments simultaneously. I had a project that needed 6 different
video segments rotoscoped on to different objects in the same scene. My
problem was that I didn't have enough disk space to digitize all of the
video, so I ended up writing this routine that grabs 1 frame from each of
the 6 segments, renders and then repeats the process so you have to store
one frame of each segment to disk. If it sounds like something you could
use with your BCD 5K let me know and I'll send it to you.

Mark, do you intend to post this utility on CIS? It sounds like it could be
useful for a lot of people, including myself.

I'd be happy to post the source code for it. I coded it in Basic and in a
hurry, so I need to go back and clean it up and comment it. I'd post the
EXE but it is written for the BCD 5000 so people with other controllers are
going to have to change the code to invoke their specific commands. If
you're interested, let me know and I'll post the source.

Mark, I have been having great difficulity in rotoscoping, specifically, my
Targa+ 64 goes into LIVE mode intermittly when rendering out to the vtr a
BVW-40 via a Diaquest. This causes a feed-back loop, thus the frame
rendered is replaced by the feedback, when the board goes into live mode.
I am still running tests to determine what the possible prolbem is. In
addition I am using HiRes QFX to do some special effects on the rotoscoped
image.
Mark what driver are you using for, if you have a Targa + 64?

Steve- Unfortunently I can't help you much with the Diaquest as I use a
BCD 5000 controller. I have however had problems with feedback when
grabbing an image. My problem was that I had both the input and the output
of the T+64 plugged into the same machine. When rotoscoping, I've found
that by disconnecting the input to the deck, everything grabs OK. I don't
have a need to have the input connected, because I render everything (at
least rotoscoping stuff) to disk first and then lay it to tape. If you're
wanting to rotoscope and lay to tape all at the same time, I'm not sure
what the answer is. As far as drivers for the T+64, I'm just using the
stock drivers with 3DS2. Hope that helps.

Steve, we had the same kind of problem as well, it ended up being the
cabling between the Targa 64+ and the VTR. You may want to call Diaquest
and/or Truevision for help.
