Hard to say. I see these disk compression utilities springing up all over
the place, even here at Autodesk. And I hear rumor that the next version
of DOS from Microsoft may have disk compression built in. But it still
makes shake all over and anticipate the end of the world. 🙂 There have
been a few cases where this sort of utility did manage to cause problems.
I don't know why; the cases aren't many. Could be that the utility is just
incompatible with some kinds of disk controllers. Try it without and see
what happens.
Unfortunately, there is no way to de-install SuperStor. Yeah, I know.
Made me a little nervous, too. But I had also heard that story about DOS
including Stacker in its next version, and I knew that DR DOS included
SuperStor, so I figured what the hell, I need the room. I've installed a
lot of utilities and have gotten over my squemishness, so this made me only
a little nervous. I just chalked it up to the price of success. But,
whenever something acts funny, I wonder: "Could it be because…?". But so
far everything appears to be OK. Actually the most important reason I use
SuperStor is to increase the size of my RAMDISK, so I guess I could remove
that one. Maybe I'll do that if I continue to have problems. So far,
everything is working.
Actually, you CAN de-install SuperStor, but it's a pain. You see, it puts
all of your data in one big "container" file. You'd have to backup all
your data, delete the container file and then re-load the data. So, forget
that.
Thanks for the input.
