There is some interest in PhotoCD in this forum so I have uploaded a file
pcdext.txt to Library 1 (the multimedia section still does not allow
uploads ). The file is of a January 1992 Philips press release on the
extensions that Philips and Kodak added to the the Photo CD standard to
allow sound, text and graphics to be recorded with the photographic images.
Kodak and Philips developed the Photo CD specifications jointly. Photo CD
discs can be played on Photo CD and CD-I players that connect to the TV
and CD-XA drives that connect to computers.
If you are interested in more than the photographic applications, I
have previously uploaded a list of CD-I titles from the Philips Interactive
Media Systems, Summer/Autumn UK catalogue. The file is called CDIUK.TXT, it
is also in the General Library.

Good to know you are here.
Do you know if the CDI directory and the files therein (on a Kodak Photo CD
disc) can be distributed with other discs?
I am preparing to release 1 disc a week of Kodak photos (approx 100 per
disc), with our retrieval, display and conversion software, and would like
to include the CDI directory and files so the disc could be played on the
Philips and/or Kodak CD-I player.
Would appreciate any info you may have.

I have to confess that although I work for Philips, I do not work on
multimedia or Photo CD, but I think it only fair to declare in my userid
that I work for Philips since I have an obvious interest. Having said that
I do work at the Philips Research Labs in the UK, where we do have
some CD-I projects so I might be able to ask them an occasional question.
I don't understand your question. The PhotoCD standard was specified
jointly by Kodak & Philips. CD-I players play PhotoCD discs so if you
are distributing PhotoCDs you will be able to play them on dedicated
PhotoCD players or on CD-I players which are also able to play CD-I discs.
If your disc plays on a Kodak PhotoCD player it must play on
a CD-I player.
Incidently the Kodak Photo CD players are currently made by Philips using
chips designed by Kodak and Motorola at the same plant that makes CD-I
players for Philips.

I see the file pcdext.txt that I said I uploaded to the general library 1,
has been put by the sysop in the Marketplace library 10, which is probably
a better place to keep press releases.
