I brought a AG7750 Pal version ,TARGA+ Pal version and a Diaquest series
II animation controller last Christmas. But I can't use it to produce a
single frame animation more than ten seconds. After the first ten seconds,
the picture begin shaking and the colour of the picture suddenly change to
green or magenta. Is there anybody who know what's the problem ? I think it
do something with the PAL version, maybe! Please help!
Is there anybody hear about a raytracer for 3D studio? If I want to
develope some application for 3D studio, where can I find some more
information?

Without actually seeing your animation, I can only guess as to the cause of
the problem. My first thought is to thoroughly check out the sync on the
entire system, even down to the cables being the same length and resistance
as your RGB and PAL cables. Are you using a house sync or the DiaQuest for
sync source?
I assume that you are blacking the tape immediately before recording, and
that the levels are proper. You might check out the calibration of the
deck and video equipment with a 'scope, also. Are your black levels high
enough? 3DS outputs a 0,0,0 black by default for a background, which is
illegal in video. Your system might be touchy enough to zap out with over a
few seconds of an illegal color.

I have just taken delivery of an AG7750 and Hercules Supersation XP and
V-LAN. I went for the XP as the promise was a PAL system designed from
scratch. This is obviously important to me in the UK.
I had a couple of problems installing the card but the picture appears to
be very good. I encountered exactly the symptoms you describe in PAL
720×540 mode. This looked good on the monitor but failed to record. I
eventually tried PAL 768×576 and this seems to produce good results.
Unfortunately during my first attempt to record a sequence I broke the
video!!! My dealer advises me this was a combination of dirty tape and
long still time out select resulting in a dirty head. Machine is back
tomorrow so I'll let you know.
Has anyone suggestions for the best settings on the 7750. The manual is
not very informative.
Also, when recording a still sequence is it nesessary to record frame by
frame or will real time produce acceptable results.

with your ag7750 you should have gotten a lammenated setup sheet. you
should go through it step by step and setup the ag7750. there should be a
timeout setting that you can control so that the heads are not sitting on
the tape for more than a min or so. actually you should render out to targa
files then use 3ds2 to record to the ag7750. this will save you time and
money in the long run on the ag7750.
do not go frame by frame for still images! its not nessesary at all. just
set the amount of frames in 3ds2's vtr control panel to how many frames you
want it to record and run the edit once. the frames will look probably
better because your not jog shuttling the tape back and forth for every
frame. lastly make sure your running it serial and not parallel. if your
using a diaquest controller then you should be running serial over
parallel.

Sherwood, I've learnt an expensive lesson on the timeout setting. I've
also tried the frame recording and that will save a lot of time. My problem
now is that every few frames the record fails resulting in bad flicker.
The time code also becomes corrupted with random times appearing on every
frame. This is less than helpful when the pre roll reaches the recorded
section. The servo light is coming up but the frame light only lights
occasionally. I presume I am losing sync somehow. Any ideas. Can you tell
me what switch settings you are using, particularly TBC, MODE, DNR, IMAGE
and all TIME CODE SWITCHES. Apart from the STILL TIME SELECT are you using
any non-default internal settings. Martin
i don't use the ag7750 for frame recording anymore, just dupes from
betacam, but i will look up the settings and send you email tommarro on all
the setting i use. in the mean time sync is VERY important so i would check
this first. make sure everything is either synced to the diaquest or to
house sync. Second did you get the additional time card that goes inside
the ag7750 ? i forget exactly what its called but it is needed for frame
accuracy. i think it was an additional 500 or so when i bought mine.

Yes I have the card AGF700, and am using a Videomedia Animax V-LAN card.
Sync is still a bit of a novelty to me. On the verbal instructions of
Videomedia (another very minimalistic manual 3 pages) I have connected the
VCR Time Code Out BNC connection to the card and put a 70 ohm terminator on
the card loop through BNC connector. I suppose I could try a few more
options here. Thanks in advance for the settings.
