I agree that Hi-8 is not the ideal format for editing or animation. Even
Sony Agrees that the format is not 100% frame accurate. I use S-VHS for
aquisition and are happy with its price/performance. However, I have found
that it does not hold up for animation. (I have the AG-7750.) I have
excellent results with 3/4 SP and Beta SP.
