Try running the SCANSCSI program. You'll find it on the DOS Applications
disk that comes with your CorelSCSI package. This program will scan the
SCSI bus to see if it can find the CD-ROM drive (or any other SCSI device
on the chain…). If it sees the CD-ROM, then generally your setup is
fine… if not, I would check your termination, and also look at your
synchronous negotiation jumper settings… I know that some NEC drives have
trouble with this. Let me know if this helps at all…

SCANSCSI sees the drive and recognizes it but I still get the CDR101 not
ready reading message. I'm now waiting for a call back from Corel tech
support (it wasn't clear to them either what the problem might be.

How is your synchronous/asynchronous negotiation set? Is synchronous
negotiation off? (It should be, if it isn't…) Let me know on this one…

I have had the same problem with my NEC83J drive. That one is solved by
remoaving the Synchroneous Transfer jumper from the Adaptec. It took me
some time to figure it out, but the NEC CD-ROM drives CERTAINLY have
problems when accessed in synchroneous drives. This may be because they
follow the SCSI-I protocol, instead of the newer SCSI-II. Removing the
jumper from the Adaptec solved my CD-ROM problem, now we are trying to
figure out why my DAT does not DAT with CorelSCSI. Nice thing, SCSI.
