#Action Media II Anim?
11 messages in this thread
Does anyone know if there is a way to output animations throught the S-VHS(Y-C)
port of an Action Media II Board? I think I can overlay the video onto the VGA
screen but do not know how (or if…) I can output to the S-Video port. Also I
believe I need to convert my animation to an AVI or AVS file to do this, any
ideas on that? I can turn a flc to an avi but it is only 8 bit….

There is a company that is doing it so it is certainly possible. D/Vision Pro,
a non linear desktop video product from touchvision in Chicago, uses the AMII
board to output a series of targa files to a recording VCR. The recording VCR
does not have to be frame controled. Their product is designed as a PC based
video editor and the Pro version allows the incorporation of animations through
this real time targa output. They do require the daughter board option on the
AMII so that it has both capture and output capability. Their phone number is
312 989-2160. I don't know if their technicians would give you their methods
but it is worth a try.
Have you tried calling Intel about this board? If you do have the daughter
board option on it they would probably help you make use if it.

I was at a video installation company yesterday and saw a real-time HD video
playback off a Quadra 950 plus special hardware, and was totally impressed. I
guess Macs can be useful sometimes <g>.

John – With the right hardware, even a PC can do real-time playback.
It just ain't cheap. You gotta have one of those 7400rps >5ms access
1-2.5 GB drives that are kicking around these days. We have a big
handful of 950's around the office where I work and my 486/66 is
faster. The 950's are only a 25MHz processor. They can be sped up to
33 MHz for another $199, but, around here, who really cares? <g>
David,
>> 7400rps
Wow, 7400 revolutions per second! That's fast! The ones I've heard about are
7400 rpm (per minute) so must be 60 times slower than yours <g>.
Oh, yeah. We get the fastest drives here in the Midwest. Didn't you
know that? We're 10 years behind in social matters, but 10 years
ahead in teknolojie. Really! You can trust everything I say as
gospel! I never make misteaks!
I didn't mean to imply such a thing was not possible with a PC, and certainly
not to imply that Macs are fast. I personaly regret every moment I spend
tapping my fingers waiting for the Macs I've used to do the butt simplest
things. I hate 'em. But the output on this product was quite good.

Well, I couldn't really tell you why I decided to write that last
note. Macs aren't so bad, and until pretty recently, were a good way
to go if you needed bitmapping in your work. That just isn't the case
anymore, of course, so it's not worth heading that way. The newest
Macs are *reasonable* in speed and, when the PowerPC versions come
out, they may leave the Pentium machines in the dust, depending on
how well Apple can tweak their OS to fit on the chip. I must have
been Mac bashing because someone here had another system crash or
something on their Quadra 950 which left me having to reinstall the
OS and 90% of the software *again* or some other common Mac tragedy.
In other words, "Never mind!"

Matrox is also getting closer to its products release … the
Animation Xpress. It should be an incrediable system with close to
3MB/sec thruput and component output. Look for a formal announcement
very soon.
Yeah, I'm quite anxious to see the product. I think it'll be an investment
I'll make early next year if it's a solid product.

I have seen that setup. Unfortunately the dealer hadn't figured out
how to make it work yet. The manual made it look good though. I
have been focusing on PC based versions of this type of editing
software so I don't have to have both a PC for 3DS and a Mac for
video. The D-Vision Pro product looks very good and was the only
product I have seen that currently does non linear video editing
without getting extremely expensive. No matter what platform you are
on though, non linear editing of video is a great concept, surpassing
even sliced bread!
