#Coactive Network
8 messages in this thread
I'm just about to buy a new network, but don't want to spend too much
money in cards, etc… I have an old, but really good of the price,
Invisible Network model 200 (8bit propietary!) and want to change to
another solution compatible with 3D Studio. Recently I have see the
Coactive network, which is a motorolla cpu based device with its own
memory that connects up to 32 pcs with peripherals for less than
$150. Probably you already have seen the black little box in adds. It
seems to be a great buy, but I'm not sure about 3ds compatibility.
I'm wondering if I can get it or I have to go ethernet.
Ana, you're going to have to ask one of the many network experts here
on the forum about that stuff. Didn't you know that I was a hardware
idiot?

Yes, I know that you claim to be a hardware illiterate, but I can't
believe you <g>. At last, you guys are engineering 3D Studio! 🙂 I
mean, will 3ds support any kind of network that can share drives or
it's ethernet only? Is there any minimun MBPS rate? As you can see
the questions are pretty general and no brand-related.
PMJI – But let me but in here. 3DS R3 network support is totally
network "independent". It just uses the file system to exchange
"notes". Target images are "deposited" in one single place and all
"stations" read one specific directory for "orders". It can be
anything. From a major 10,000 workstations mega fiber optic network
to a couple of machines hooked up together through a serial port and
a drive mapping program. The only difference here will be the network
performance. The faster you can get an image "deposited" in the
target drive, the sooner that station will be back to work rendering.
Thanks, Gus!
Believe him.
Is it safe and legal to start talking about R3 here now? I've got a couple
questions… 🙂
Well, Autodesk started shipping boxes to dealers yesterday, but you should give
it till the end of the week… till customers actually have product in their
hands.
