One last question. What are TSR's? I decided I need to buy two copies of CHAOS.
One for my son's XT which was the main concern and another for me to enjoy as
the program was intended–for our 386 and 486. Thanks for all the advice. I'm
amazed that the only place in our area which sells the program is Comp USA, not
Egghead. I would think this would be very popular, particularly for those who
read Jurassic Park or saw the movie.
That's odd; Egghead has been selling CHAOS for at least a year in my
neck of the woods, and was the first major chain to carry it. Perhaps
they've got it indexed as "James Gleick's CHAOS: The Software", and
not cross-referenced as just "CHAOS"?
A "TSR" is a "terminate-and-stay-resident" program — a program that
you run that returns you to the DOS prompt, but has some long-lasting
function and so (semi)permanantly eats up some memory. Don't worry
about them, though; if you start running into problems running CHAOS
(like a warning saying "not enough memory"), ask here again and
people will help you out. (The world of computers is sure full of
opaque jargon, isn't it!)
