(Previous sent letter, the software name used was incorrect. Model mover 1.5 is the software that I'm using to make a .works file for MacroMedia 3D software not macro model.) I'm having diffculty in saving large .dxf (2mb – 4mb or lager)files in model mover 1.5 into a .works files. I draw my 3-d models on a IBM using Autocad R12, copy them to my removable hard drive, mount the dos removable onto my mac using access pc. Thru apple file exchange I translate the pc.dxf file into a mac format. Open file in model mover 1.5 (opens fine) then go to save as a .works file and it fails after a few minutes. I have 26 mb allocated to model mover 1.5. What is going wrong. For the recored and the heck of it i was successful in opening the file and render it in Infini-D. Also i would like to know how model mover 1.5 handles Autocad features like recognizing layers, blocked or grouped objects and line colors. I think macromind 3d does neither. Thank You! Mark R.L. Hey Mark! Howya been? I'm not sure of the innards of ModelMover, as it was licensed from Kandu software…it's a subset of their CADMover program, designed to translate DXF, Sculpt 3D, Super 3D and IGES to 3DGF format for import into Macromedia Three-D. To the best of my knowledge, ModelMover does not do anything special with layers, blocks, groups, and line colors. If the translation is failing via that route, then options include simplifying the layers, entities, etc. Have you checked ModelMover's Log File for errors? Which release of AutoCAD are you using? DXF translation often causes an explosion in file size…this in itself can cause problems. For the record, I rarely use ModelMover any more…I've been bringing DXF in through MacroModel, saving, and then the geometry can be directly imported into 3D Works. This route has the option of converting layers to hierarchies. Regards, John Dowdell Macromedia Tech Support
