probably as good of a reason as any to consider moving. My wife and I have
actually considered such a move out of the U.S., but mainly because of the
general bubble like social atmosphere. One can only take so many Television

Wow, gun control and religeon in one message. Not wanting to stir up
the pot any, eh? <g>
The violence that is rampant in our society now is based heavily in
the social decay here, not simply that "guns are available". Stickt
punishment and personal (read PARENTAL) responsibility are the only
real answers IMHO.
Okay now, I purposely left out social decay, because I had covered
the religion and handguns. Maybe they all fit together somehow
……. After all one of my pet sayings is …. "Everybody wants to
go to heaven, but no-one wants to die!" 🙂

So true!

Well, this thread just doesn't want to die <g> (pun intended). 4 boys
aged 14/15 I know personally were attacked in a "drive-by" shooting a
week ago. Three are dead now. Only one survived and was unhit. This
was a fight between neighbourhood kids (I used to do this myself as a
teen) and without guns there might be broken noses, maybe some stab
wounds at worst. It's just too easy to kill with a gun, IMHO. There's
a tremendous psycholigical leap between killing somebody from a
distance with a gun and getting in their face and killing them
manually with a knife or club. Very few kids have the psyche for the
latter, thousands have it for the former.
BTW, in the October Compuserve magazine on page 19 it has a sidebar on
the "top 10 subjects guaranteed to start a heated online discussion".
One of them is gun control. How true.
Also, before you label me as a bleeding heart-liberal, since I know
you are a Rush Limbaugh fan, I want to say that I'm an English
Conservative party supporter (although temporarily living in SoCal).
The difference is _no_ major political party in England is in favour
of private handgun ownership. Just had to clarify that.

I'm not sure what you mean since I said supported the British conservative
party, plus your spelling has completely confused me <g>. (You might try one of
those new fangled spelling checker things <g,d&r>). I'm not an American so
don't get a full vote here, although my wife let's my share her's.

Actually this is an obtuse reference to a term coined in the MTV series "The
Young Ones"…..I guess you kinda hada have been there at the time to have it
make sense in context. <g>
Spel Chkr….Watts @ Spal Chalker?<BG>
Murph'
James,
Ah, "the Young Ones"! That was a totally bloody brilliant series! I could
really relate to that since it first aired in the UK in 1982 when I was a
student at Manchester Polytechnic. It's about a bunch of students sharing a
house and the anarchy that goes on – it's not obvious that they are students
because they very rarely actually go to any classes <G>. I shared houses with
other students – ah, those were the days…..nostalgia isn't what it used to be
<g>.
