I have an Amiga 2000 with a recently installed 68030 processor. I plan on
adding a HP 4L Laserjet printer. What I want to do is creat flyers and ads for
local businesses on my computer. Can anyone tell me what programs/hardware I
will need to produce crisp, jaggy-free graphics and print?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Either Art Expression or Prodraw will do what you want. Try them both
and pick the interface you like best. I believe that clip art
collections are available for both. You will be much better off with
a postscript capable printer though, and you might consider getting
the 4M instead. I have seen really good reviews of it.

My suggestion(s) for your printing projects is Professional Page
4.1 although 4.0 and even 3.0 are pretty good. If you don't want to
spend quite so much ty Pagesetter III. I personally use PPage 4.1 for
all sort of things, output to a HP laserjet IIIp with excellent
results. (of course a HP 4M – would be better again.) Another
program to look at is Pagesetter, in particulart hte upcomming
release 3.0 which by the sound of it will do all things to all things
– lots of features not yet available in other programs.

You will be very unhappy with the 4L, it is not a good printer. If you
can't afford a 4M don't do anything until you can. Then buy it and be in
DP heaven.

I use PageStream. It imports all kinds of ggraphics formats, supports the
use of postscript fonts, outputs to color. It will print files to any
preferences printer, lino euipment, postscript files, etc. It has
anadequate set of structured (ie:scalable, jaggie-free) drawing tools.
You may also want to get something like ProDraw or Art Expression, which
are structired drawing programs.
Make certain that your printer has at least 2 meg of ram. If you can
afford to get HP 4M (postscript) do so. Or, if you can afford that, you
might want to check out the 1200 DPI Samsung Finale 80000… it does 1200
DPI for the same cost (or less) than the HP 4M which is only 600 DPI.
I'm jumping in a bit here but tell me about the Samsung Finale 80000.
It dose 1200 DPI for the same cost as a HP 4M!!!!!!!!!!. There must
be a catch

I haven't seen this puppy in person yet, but believe me, I'm going to
as soon as possible. I've also seen ads for a 300 DPI _COLOR DYE
SUB_ printer recently at ridiculously low prices… but it looks
kinda low end. We are, however, starting to see some major price
breakthroughs in high end printers.
Does the Samsung (1200 DPI) use only A4 paper or can it also use the
larger A3 paper, also what about thin card for social tickets etc???
BTW I assume that as a postscript printer we would only need the
Prefs postscript driver to run that printer. Saw the adds to…..
If you saw the ads, you pretty much know what I know. As I learn more,
I let folks here know… hope you'll do the same. And yes, a
postscript driver (or any driver for the other 5 supported
emulations) is all you'd need.
