Many time I will look at some materials on the cube in the materials editor and they will look to be exactly what I want in color and texture. However, after I apply them to something ( such as as plank) the results will look nothing at all like what I see in the materials editor. I usually do a region fit. Could someone give me any tips as to how to make the materials look like what I see in the materials editor in regards to texture and color? Thanks Judy

If you want you materials to look similar to what you see on the cube, you shouldn't use region fit unless your object has the same aspect ratio, (or close), as the cube. Region fit will stretch your material bitmap to fit your object, giving you all sorts of weird effects. Instead, use the standard mapping Icon, and scale or rotate it as necessary before you apply it. Most of the standard included materials have approx. the same aspect ratio as the default mapping icon.

Thanks I will try it. Just for example if I use the wood inlaid tile material, I can never get anything that has the inlay on it. Judy

Keep in mind that light(s) are all important when it comes to color! If your materials look 'perfect' in the materials editor, you might want to play around with the lights in your 3d scene. FWIW Bob W.
