When a machine is in slave mode and an image is sent to it for
rendering – the customer presses the space bar and sees the image
rendering. When complete, the customer wishes that the image stays on
the display "Until" there is another image to render. Currently, the
screen refreshes itself upon completion with the "In slave mode"
message…
The customer asked for this because they wished to have 10 machines
render the same scene with subtle changes, then have a group view all
of the images when they were displayed.
I know what you are saying, but normally you would turn off the
display (set to NULL in the 3DSNET.SET file) when network rendering.
The danger is that, as with R2, the display is the limiting factor in
any rendering.
If you were rendering to 512×486 files, and some of your graphics
cards only did 640×480, those last 6 lines would never get rendered,
and you'd have some major problems!
The perfect solution to your question would be to have identical dual
screen systems on every station.
The assumption is, you know what each individual graphic card can
handle, you are sending a single image to a specific machine with a
correct resolution for that machine, you do this for a few machines,
and you wish to see the final rendered images on their displays (if
the space bar was pressed for each machine and nothing more is in
each queue).
Currently, to achieve the same effect, if you own one key, you must
take each machine out of slave mode after the image is rendered, bring
up another application on each machine, load the image file for each
machine then look at each displayed images as a group, exit your
program, bring the machineup in slave mode, have it render…. ad
infinitum…..
In its present form, pressing the space bar will allow you to see the
image until the last scan line is rendered.
The wish_list item is "leave the image on the sceen until a new item
arrives in the queue" or in other words, "don't do a clear screen if
a space bar is pressed". words,
