Mark, just to add to what has already been said, make absolutely sure that he knows to use a period in place of the comma. To internet, our user id's have periods, not commas.

Hi, i recieved his test file tonite.. what an address he has.. talk about some confusing stuff. from what he says the internet is huge. tons of files if he could figure out how to get at them. anyway i sent him a reply using the "reply" command in e-mail. will that get it back to him? alls it asked me for was my name. this may become interesting. -mark-

Mark, Your brother-in-law will need to learn how to use the FTP protocol, and will need to know the names of FTP sites where files are stored. He will also need to understand how to determine when a file is in compressed (binary) format, and when it is not since he will have to set his FTP session for ASCII (eg; text) or BINARY (compressed) before performing a file download (GET).
