Thanks, I thought I'd heard that, but wanted to be sure…

Just put my two cents in here. The advertised TBC in the 1970 is really just a skew corrector ala 3/4" Sony decks. The meaning of a TBC is that it correct's the lenght of the line of video not just the leading edge of video. A synchronizer does this but is generally used just for sat feeds or video camera's that are already time base correct. The WJMX-10 series mixes video this way. While you can do this one the result is never again RS-170 spec video. I can't believe that Panasonic has a TBC button on the front of the deck but at least they have quit adverstising it that way.

But you don't need full frame TBC's for the Toaster. I use JVC internal card TBC in one of my feeders and it is only full field. I dont believe the Panasonic 77/76 series TBC's are full frame either. I've also heard of people using 32 line TBCs with the Toaster. So while the safe and "official" rap says full frame, it ain't necessarily necessary. In the Panasonic line, you can also use a WMX-Jxx to feed to the Toaster as its frame synchronizer cleans up the signal well enough that the Toaster uses it with no complaints. Now you may not want to try to use that in a broadcast envoronment, but there are more than a few people turning a buck in industrial/educational video with such a set-up. wmc – via Autopilot!
