Modeling a horse

I remember your saying that you did a zebra mesh. Well I am working on a horse
mesh and I am having a real problem getting the body correct. I modeled the
head and neck separately but am having a real problem with the body. I would
appreciate any tips you can give me about the body.

Judy,
I never made a zebra. However I can tell you that to make the body you should
probably use the fit tool. Beyond that I couldn't really say unless I saw the
mesh.
Are you doing this for work or pleasure? There are plenty of ready-made horses
around, and it's probably more cost-effective to buy one.

Can't afford to buy a mesh – besides the one I have seen in the VIewpoint
catalog all look like Arabian horses or Saddlebreds – not the kind and
breed of horse I want. I need to model the specially bred horses for
knights – much heavier – Hanoverian breed basically.
I am using the FIt tool and it is giving me fits 🙁

PMJI, but I'm getting more and more turned on by some of the extraordinary
tools we now have for 3DS, particularly as they apply to modeling. I modeled a
fairly nice stegosaurus using SKIN and it was the first thing I had ever tried
to model and I was amazed at how easy it was. Breaking up a creature into
component parts (body, neck, head, legs, etc) makes the fit tool easy to use.
I've just gotten Digimation Bones, and it has an IPAS called Smooth which
allows you to attach limbs to bodies and smooth the resultant joins. I think
this (along with just a little mastery of the fit tool) can allow you to model
any creature alive (well, hair is still a problem…).
