I'm frustrated with trying to teach myself 3ds. I'd like to find some
teaching aids either in print or video or both to help me simplify
this monster. I've got the basics but I'm ramming my head against the
wall on modeling and different aspects of the keyframer.

There's a great series of instruction tapes done by Digimation (I'm sure
somebody here on the forum has their phone number) called "In the Studio".
They'll get you going quickly.
