#LHARC woes

As the old song goes…Theres a hole in my bucket….
I've just spent a very frustrating several hours trying to get
a version of the .lha .lzh etc. decompression utilities to work on my
amiga. I am using CIM on an (ugh!) (dare I admit it?) IBM PC…well
it's better than using it as a doorstop. In any event I cannot seem
to find a version of these utilities that will run on the amiga that
is not arced or zipped already in some fashion that I can unarc
(.zip, .zoo et.) on the PC without problems with the .info and long
file name conventions. Also, some of the files that I have managed
to decompress require other files from the ARP libraries, more
complications.
Are there any sea (self extracting archives) files out there
that address this issue. Is there a version of these decompression
files that I can get that are not compressed?

In Library 16 of the AmigaUsers Forum, you'll find a file
LHA138.RUN, which is a self-extracting archive containing the latest
version of the LHA archiver (which handles .lzh and .lha files). It
should meet your needs.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I've downloade scores of useless things
otherwise.
So nice to talk to someone with a real processor inside. My connection
to the compswerve <grin> network is via a '386 (ugh) PC.
My thinking (incorrect) was that I could use the PC for upload and download
tasks and not clutter up my A2000 or A3000. I have consequently spent just as
much time trying to get DOCSIM (for SIMulation?) running for several days.
What software are you using.
An interesting note, I have utilities on the PC that can decompress
most of the files I have downloaded, unfortunately, the long file names and
extensions give them fits so they skip over it. I guess this is what I get for
using the HYUNDAI of the computer world.

I strongly recommend that you check out Autopilot for accessing
Compuserve. It's an "automated navigator" program for the Amiga that will
allow you to do 90 percent of your work off-line (and not accruing connect
charges). IMHO, it's a much better alternative to the CIM products for
making the most of forums (both message bases and file libraries).
It should be noted that Autopilot requires Workbench 2.0 or higher.
You can find a functional demo of the program in Library 9 of the Amiga
Vendors forum (GO AMIGAVEND) – download the file AP.LHA. There's a
separate file containing the docs (I think it's APDOC.LHA).
I have both an Amiga and a high-end PC sitting here. The Amiga is used
for almost all of my telecomm, though. Autopilot is one of the main
reasons for that.

Get LHA138.RUN from Library 16 of AmigaUser. It is self-extracting on
the Amiga. You can download it with CIM on your PC and then transfer
it to the Amiga before unpacking it. To unpack it, just type its
name in a shell. That will run the program, which unpacks it into
your current directory. It will then unpack any of the .lha or .lzh
archives.

Thanks. I've found a few Self Extracting Archives on various forums
and wondered if someone had the forsight to do that for the archive utilities.
