You only need a PC Emualtor (or emulation software) if you want to RUN the
PC programs on the CD… like the search engines, etc.
Hooking up a CD is pretty easy… just get a CD that suits your needs (ie:
multi session capable if you plan on accessing multi-session PhotoCD
discs) with a scsi interface, set the scsi id to a unique id on your scsi
controller, make sure the termination is correct.
There is a PD CD driver here in the AmigUser libraries called AMICD.LHA.
Or you can buy drivers from Xetec (CDROMFS) or AsimWare (AsimCDFS), both
of which support PC ISO-9660, MAC HS, and reportedly PhotoCD.
Actually, it may not be quite that simple. On the PC side, the CD
needs generally to be MSCDEX-compatible, which means it needs PC-side
drivers which can produce a PC-side interface which MSCDEX can talk
to the drive with, and so on. Just having a filesystem for the drive
on the Amiga side doesn't really address that issue, since CDs on PCs
tend not to be viewed by most CD-based software as "just another
mounted drive".
AS I believe my reply said, under AmigaDos a CDRom filesystem will
allow you access to the files on the CDRom, but running any of the
programs or search engines will require emulation… and as you point
out, that may entail drivers under the emulation, and may require mpc
drives, etc.
