#R3/Win 3.1/Vibrant fails
3 messages in this thread
I am unable to get 3DSr3 going under Windows 3.1:
I have installed pharlap.386, created a PIF, modified system.ini, all as
described on pp. 95-96 of the Installation Manual.
Running Windows Enhanced Mode, I click on the "3D" icon and get the message:
"Initializing Autodesk 3D Studio…"
But, then a red Vibrant full-screen panel pops up saying:
"Vibrant initialization error number 1300: VGA hardware checks failed."
I'm allowed to "press any key," the screen clears, and the single line:
"**** vdm_init mode 78 returned error 1300 ****" appears.
Pressing Enter I get:
"Specified display too small
Press any key to continue"
And I return to Windows.
I have initialized 3ds with "vibcfg" for my Video 7 VRAM II VGA card
(and everything runs fine under DOS, alone) to 1024x768x256 for all
displays except Materials Editor.
Now I _know_ my 14-inch "specified display" is too small, but I've
been quite unsuccessful in convincing my wife of that fact! <g>
I too have this problem, with the VRAM II properly configured under DOS but
reporting a failure under Windows.
We've asked Vibrant what's the scoop, about a week ago. I'll ask them again
today.
Although we have been very lucky getting the support of so many graphics cards
through Vibrant's module, we have to an indirect channel for support!
I don't think a call to Vibrant would be out of line in this case.
Thanks (and I'll let you know when we find out something).
Nik
Thanks for your validation on my Video7 VRAM II problem! I gave Vibrant a call
yesterday, as you suggested (although after their normal tech support hours)
and the man I spoke to remembered the problem and _thought_ a solution had been
passed on to _someone_ (he didn't know who) at Autodesk. Have you gotten wind
of it?
He took my number, but I've heard nothing as yet. He did say that since the
Vibrant system for R3 is licensed (or sumpin') to Autodesk, that I (we R3
users) should be going to YOU guys for support, not Vibrant directly.
