To Anyone, Help! I have an A2000 and I think that I have blown my mouse port
fuse. I was plugging in my mouse and now it doesn't work. Both buttons work, as
does the joystick. The pointer will not move. The pointer moves when I use the
cursor and alt keys. A couple of years ago this happened while it was still
under warrenty and they told me that the mouse fuse had blown. I have changed
the serial port (or parallel port) fuse on another 2000 and it was a little
green thing. I have three of these green things labeled f2, f3, and f4. The
thing labeled f1 seem to be a resistor. It is right next to the mouse port. Did
they use a resistor as the fuse? I have tested the resistor and it seems to be
open. Can anybody give me any suggestions. I have called to get it repaired and
they wanted $50 to $75 to fix it. If it is only the fuse I can change it
myself.

you seem to be right in having broken the fuse, and it _is_ a little
green thing, looking like a resistor, but it's a fuse anyway, and has
to be soldered into the motherboard. I got the same mouse failure
some time ago when I plugged in a dongle for a CAD prog, and had to
change the fuse. If you want to first check if it has blown, meter
if there is still +5 V power on pin 7 of the mouse connectors.
The fuse is located next to the mouse ports and near U202. I dont't
know, if this will be F1 (not all revs of motherboards will have this
little green fuses, and in the schematics I obtain, they aren't
included).
I just wonder if you _really_ got a resistor in the place of F1.
Maybe your dealer put it in when repairing it in warranty some years
ago, as you mentioned. These little green fuses are _very_ hard to
get as spare (at least here in Germany) and they are expensive (I
paid about $10 for one of these little thingies). I'm just imagining
your dealer might have put in a resistor with low resistance on
repair instead… 🙂
if it is a resistor, list the colored bands, starting with the one
closest to the end. At least I can tell you what it should read when
you meter it.
