Hello John
>SDRC I-DEAS can export several different formats, including Wavefront, IGES
and stereolithography, depending on which optional packages they've purchased.<
Thanks for the response. I'll send a message tomorrow at work and find out.
How will the answer help me get it to 3DS?? Is there a conversion program for
these outputs?
I'll let you know what they have as soon as I find out.
Thanks again,
Mark
My company makes a program that translates between many 3D file formats. It
might be able to help. Either way, I'd be glad to give you some advice about
your conversion problems…
john/syndesis…
does your translation program include STL format or a surfaced IGES format?
if so, how well do these files translate into 3DS? i know that the STL files
are
basically triangulated meshes… will these produce extremely complex models
in 3D Studio? is there a way to demo this program?
thanks…
joe
Yes, we support both ASCII and binary STL files. STL files are triangles only,
no surface or sub-object information. The faces are oriented properly for nice
one-sided (not double-sided) rendering in 3DS. Extremely complex? Well, it
depends on the original geometry. 3DS has its limits: 65,536 faces per object.
If you tesselate an object very tightly, it might result in an STL file with
more triangles than 3DS can handle.
We hope to release InterChange for Windows in a few weeks. If you'd like to see
a sample conversion, feel free to send it to me on disk in the mail, or in
private e-mail, and I'll send it back to you.
john…
thanks for the reply… i'd like to send over an STL file sometime next week…
one last question… what will the price be for Interchange for Windows?
thanks…
