I'd also try (along with field rendering) dropping your anti-aliasing to Low, and using a lower adaptive sampling setting. I don't usually set AS to much above 24. Hope this helps. Trent/ReAnimators

Okay. Anyone following this thread. I appreciate all your input. I think I've narrowed the problem down a little further. I thought it was fixed, but I was mistakeon. sigh. My animation starts with a white screen. Two vertical rectangles fly in from the right and the left and join in the center to form a square. The surface of these rectangles is transparency mapped with an alpha channel sequence. The sequence is of a silhouette of a hammer hitting a nail. So the black square is cut out with the background (white) sillouette of a hammer hitting a nail. Now, when I clicked on field rendering, it fixed the flying in of the two rectangles to not be blurry/junky on the edges. They look smooth. But the transparency sequence still appears exactly identical. Should I have created my alpha channel with field rendering? Is this possible? My fix (for the moment) has been to render the squares flying in with field rendering. And then the rest of it with soft edges, high anti-aliasing. This has not fixed the problem, but softened it so much that it isn't too bad. Have I found a bug? Is it not field rendering the motion in the image sequence? Again, I appreciate any input. I am willing to upload my scene file and object. Anything. Hell, I'll next day them to anyone! Thanks to everyone who has helped so far. Sean Howard // Dreaming of smooth edges //

I think you may want to create the alphas with Field Rendering turned on (assuming you created them in LW in the first place). I'm not sure what happens when Field rendering a sequence…. JG

Yes, I generated the alpha sequence with LW. I will try to re-render the alpha images with Field Rendering and see if this helps. (Assuming, hopefully, that the Alpha file will hold Field information! 😉 ) It has been a most perplexing animation…sigh… The client didn't notice, though. I just wish I could get it "perfect!". Sean, one thing comes to mind: the silhouette animation you're mapping onto the square is 30 frames/second, compared to 60 fields/second for your final field-rendered render. (How's that for redundant wording?) Perhaps the impression you're getting comes from the contrast between the jerky, 30-fps silhouette and the silky-smooth, field-rendered final product. Blaq!

Could be Charles. I will try to re-render my alpha image and see if that has any effect. Will repost once I have done so… Thanks for the input. Sean Howard // Dreaming … //
