Hi, I need some help trying to install a Toaster2000 into an Amiga 2000 (rev
6.3 motherboard). I'm selling my toaster to a friend but the toaster does not
work in his 6.3rev A2000. I tried 2 different toasters in his machine, no luck.
I moved all my peripherals onto his machine including PS, HD, and accelerator,
no luck. His machine is same as mine 2Meg Agnus. ECS denise, 2.04 ROM. I am
going to start swapping chips one by one. But I don't know with which one to
begin. Does anybody has a T2000 running on a 6.3 motherboard? Is there any
other component on the motherboard that could be giving me this problem. Any
help will be appreciated, thanks.

I had trouble with a 6.4. First time was a burnt trace (line 23 of the
external video connector carries +5 volts. The burnt trace lifted from
teh MB and contacted pin 21 [+12V if I recall] and when I tried to boot
the toaster I screen scramble.)
The second problem I found did not prevent it from running but just gave
lots of screen funnies – Fuse F4 (also associated with the video
connector) had burnt out.
These are symptoms of connecting/disconnecting cables while the machine is
running which I NEVER do. My 6.4 machine came from the dealer with
problems and SMG refused to fix it, so thanks to DKB and PreVue Tech
people I was able to pinpoint and repair the fuse, another resistor that
was not up to snuff and repaired the burnt trace. It seems to operate
O.K. now.
Bottom line, it may be more subtle than a chip, especially if someone has
been dinking around with cables while it is on.

Thanks I'll look into that. I didn't want to dig out the old osciloscope yet,
but I guess I"ll have to now.

I've seen a couple of 2000's that had flakey video slots. Believe it or
not, loosening the motherboard mounting screw on the side nearest the
video slot cured that problem. I guess a trace ran too close & got
grounded. Failing that, the first chips I'd look at would b the 8520's,
then the Denise and Agnus.

Jim, I started with the chips. I replaced the ECS Denice with a regular old
denise from my A500 and it works. And the ECSDenise works in the A500. I don't
know if the chip is faulty or only partially. I will oreder a new denise anyway
to try it out.

That's wierd, but believable. In the A500, the Denise chip isn't
driving the video slot. Could be the digital RGB lines are off… I
believe the Toaster uses them for communication. The 500 won't unless
you've got an old CGA monitor hooked up. 🙂 Good luck

Make sure that the A2000 doesn't have an extension on the RGB line. The
A2000/T2000 combination doesn't like anything but the standard cableing.
So, done any beer bottles lately? 😉
