Leslie,
while, theoretically, the startup-sequence is supposed to be inviolate,
according to (defunct) C= dogma, I have several modifications made to
mine. There are times where you absolutely have to place a particular
piece of software in the startup-sequence or, otherwise, the software will
not function correctly.
In almost every case, the software involves some level of patching of
system vectors and functions (the internal routines of AmigaDOS) and there
is no way around this. I do not know if this is the case with respect to
MWB2, but it may be so. I do know that MWB1 did require at least the
addition of one line to the startup-sequence (the NickPrefs line) in order
to function properly. As with many things, it is a trade-off. I have an
even half-dozen lines added to my startup-sequence, each of them a patch
to the system, and they seem to be more well behaved than the patches
obtained from other software.
You get what you pay for. Be it in terms of actual money cost and/or
in terms of modifications to your system. I just automagically copy my
startup-sequence to a seperate file s:ss.copy upon every execution of
editing that file. That way, I always have a previous copy to refer to
when things go wrong. Which they usually do, ala Murphy's Law.

Brian,
MagicWB v1.x did not "require" any addition to the startup-sequence.
NickPrefs isn't part of MagicWB nor was it written by the same person. It
was distributed with MagicWB as a convenience to non-3.x users.

Steve:
If you don't have Magic Workbench, but do have MUI and a number of icons
that are MagicWB "compliant", and you simply set the workbench for 8
colors, the colors in the MWB-style icons seem a bit garish. Is there a
file somewhere that suggests setting for the extra 4 colors that make
these icons look better?
Ray Lewis ?|^)
There is no relationship whatsoever between MUI and MagicWB.
As for as the MagicWB icons are concerned, it depends on what version of the OS
you're using as 2.x and 3.x treat the workbench palette differently. There are
various utilities in the Icons library that you might take a look at.
Steve,
Where can I find out more about MagicWB? Sounds intersting?
C. Davey
Look in the Icons/Backgrounds library and do a BRO KEY:MAGIC*
Wow! Tanx! I just looked at the files. Looks like fun.
Steve, once again, I gotta tell ya, THIS IS ONE FINE PROGRAM you done
writ. Having the complete list of available files downloaded in those 4
files is brilliant and sure makes this a pleasure to use.
I'm still pooring throught the docs to find great new features. I'm
really sorry I was off during the beta test phase of this one, but the
fine, fine tuning is going to be fun too. Congratulations, man!!!
And the .COR files are terrific!
More later…
Oh yeah, I know, it sure would be nice to be able to drag on a section of
headers, or maybe select one and hit the down arrow to select the next
several headers.

Steve,
if you wish to have the patterns as part of your Workbench, under 2.x,
you WILL have to add a line to your startup-sequence. It is only under OS
3.x and the first release of MWB that you will not need to add a line to
the startup-sequence. I am quite aware that NickPrefs was not written by
the same person, but in accordance with the above, you have to have it to
get the best output for MWB, again limited to the first release. Your
fact checking is off.
It would be nice to run 3.x, but I have neither the money nor the
inclination, given the current situation vis-a-vis C=. I only spoke the
truth WRT the installation here. We don't all have dream machines.
Brian,
You stated that MWB required 1 line to be added to s:startup-sequence. MWB
does not require such a thing — NickPrefs does. NickPrefs is not part of MWB.
