Good Amiga folk all:
This message is on behalf of my cousin, another loyal Amiga-user whom I am
trying to lure online. I myself am a dreaded pc/msdos/windows type and know
nothing about amiga software or hardware so the usual forgive-my-ignorance
applies here…
What communications software is available commercially for her — or is a handy
navigational program available for downloading? This would be preferrable since
she has no experience using a modem at all, let alone dealing with CompuServe.
Now, if something IS available and if I download it for her, can her amiga read
my dos diskette?
Any help, advice, warnings, etc. (including hardware considerations around the
purchase of a modem…) are welcome and appreciated.

You can download AP.LHA from AmigaVendor forum, the file section is
labelled AutoPilot.
Most Amiga callers on CompuServe use this program called AutoPilot to save
time and money. It allows her to gather mail and file catalogs to read
off-line. It also has an ARexx port, so she can add custom features
written in the Amiga version of Rexx. It's very easy to use and she can
register the software online for $69.95.
The program has certain features invisible until she registers, but it
will allow her to get and read mail and download files.
AmigaVendor forum also has online support for the program, in case she
needs assistance.
If her Amiga has AmigaDOS 2.1 or higher, she'll be able to read 720K DOS
disks. If she has a high density drive, she'll also be able to read 1.44mb
disks. You should only need the 720K one, however.
It's well worth the money and will pay for itself in no time.

Thanks for your speedy and helpful reply. Just what I needed to know. I use
tapcis myself (I'd be lost on CIS without it) and it looks like autopilot is
much the same…
