Your asking price is probably unrealistic given the current premium for
A4000s — expect to pay that or more without a monitor, i.e., new prices
for used machines.
that's ok, I'll get one eventually. Someone'll take it, just not you.
Let us know how you fare — we're all interested in how prices are moving.
Just got a reply for $1500. another is selling for 1200. more later.

You might try calling Computer Answers, Saskatchewan, Canada.
They have A4000/040 units @ $1499-.
Their number is (306)-764-2888
It might be worth looking into.

I would avoid computer answers I live in Vancouver BC and it can hardly support
an amiga community computer answers is located in a town of 10,000 maybe less
its a garage operation and he does no have 4000's but he does have a lot of
people after him that have paid for items that after months are still not
shipped. They are virtually impossible ot get a hold of and when I did he lied
left and right

Thank you very, very much for the info.
I spoke with the gentleman, you are probably refering to, yesterday and
according to him they have a sizable number of A4000s as well as A1200s on the
way. I originally responded to an ad they placed in the Oct. issue of "Amiga
World". This ad priced out a stock 1200 @ $329-, and a stock 4000/030 @ $1299-
but when I called yesterday to inquire those figures suddenly mutated into
something completely different, and the explanation for this was somewhat
nebulous at best, but not having any real experience with this company of
course it seemed to be a plausible route to obtaining one of these sought after
beauties.
Did you say that you purchased or attempted to purchase a machine from this
organization? They do not ship C.O.D., and that alone could be a problem
although many other valid operations won't either.

I know of more than one verifiable bad experience with Computer Answers of
Canada. Beware.

It's rrrreal tough to ascertain the motives of unscrupulous individuals when
you are talking to them for the first time with the intention of placing an
order. When some people want something from you they almost always sound as
sweet as Mary See.
Brave gents, such as yourself, coming forward with information on actual
negative experiences helps us all greatly indeed. When I spoke with these
people there was no reason for me to suspect foul play, other than the sudden
split second price increase. That alone blew the deal for me.

I am the last person to be negative, but I have to agree with Don. I had
a very difficult time getting a hold of Computer Answers, and when I did I
got the old bait and switch. "No we don't have the $1499 A4000, but we do
have a better package available. For "just" $2899 you will get an A4000
with 8 megs fast ram and a 210meg hard drive." Who are these guys anyway,
used car salesmen? <g>

Funny you should use the car sales pitch as a plug cause I thought door to door
vacuum cleaners. You know the ones with snap on spot weilders, and dental care
paraphernalia. I also received the same offer on the hd package deal although
I specifically inquired about stock out o' the box units only.
If this company has vilolated so many why aren't they at the bottom of a lake
in the trunk of an old Buick?
I am certainly more than apologetic if I suggested to the seeker of the A4000
that he contact this place if this is the case.

That's one of the problems with the Commodore situation right now; there
are so many landmines out there that the average Amiga consumer doesn't
know who to turn to for reputable sales info and assistance ;-(

Thank you for your reply.
I never really could quite fathom the mentality , while the reasons are always
clear enough, behind attempting to put the screws to people to any degree.
Doing good business with people is basically giving them what they want for
what you want, and then you will continue to have repetitive commerce with
those who grow to trust you, and then look to you to fill their future needs.
Things can be self destructive just as they are capable of being self working,
and while these kinds of operations may get by fleecing a certain portion of
the general public they almost always end up the same and that is hanging
themselves. This seems to already be in progress for this particular group.
