#Character Anim. w/3DS
3 messages in this thread
Now that there are a character animation add-ons available 3DS, I'd like to try
to totally switch over from Playmation/A:M to 3DS for character animation. What
is the best one to go with? Bones?, the new stuff that comes with release 4.0?,
or is there something else?
Hi David,

Bones helps you animate objects that do *not* have any hierarchical data.
There are *many-many* meshes available that do not have hierarchical data. This
routine is therefore very useful.
Release 4's IK, will allow you to animate *linked*-objects by defining joints
and their relationships to each other within a hierarchical tree and then
influence this tree based on other objects in the scene.
I look forward to the flics and meshes that will be showing up in the lib that
have been created with this new method of animating scenes.

In addition to what Jonas said, the IK.KXP that ships with R4 will also work
with objects that have been skinned with our Skin.axp add-on (from Disk#6).
Check out msg 126857 for more info about examples that are here in the DL's.
