Ani loads slowly

Brian-
There has recently been a small exchange here on the Asoft forum about the
problem some of us have experienced in AniPro loading very slowly. Do any of
the Adesk support staff have any idea what causes the problem and/or what we
might do to correct it?
I don't have my config or autoexec files with me tonight at home, but the
problem is the following: when trying to enter Ani.exe it takes a long time for
the program to come up…about 2.5 mins. on my Gateway 486-66 EISA with a SCSI
500 Mb Hd and 32 Megs of RAM.
I'm using anipro to playback long (20mb) animations from 3DS in RAM. I notice
a large temp file in PAAT. Is it possible that I'm just waiting for the temp
file to load? Can I delete this temp file from my HD?
Thanks,
Carlton

Slow load times are almost always the result of memory manager configurations.
i would try experimenting with removing or using different memory managers, and
removing or changing the various switches on the command line.

Sure. Delete it from the PAAT directory. In the future you can prevent the
creation of that file by selecting Abondon instead of YES when you exit the
program.

Coincidentally, it takes exactly 2.5 min to load on the same type of sys here.
I still think this has something to do with DOS 6.2, as I did not have this
problem when running 6.0. This is true with the temp file deleted, too.

Have you tried the suggestion in the README.DOC which comes with the current
Animator about CFIG386 ANI.EXE -MAXV 0 ? (That last item is zero) I
haven't been able to get it to run as a DOS application under Windows though.
If you try it, make a copy of ANI.EXE first.
What? You mean read the Docs? (g)
Thanks,
I'll check it out.

I think you will find that the dos 6.2 emm386.exe to be your problem. Instead
of calling for
C:\dos\emm386.exe
use the windows version (and for himem.sys too)
c:\windows\emm386.exe
You'll be back to your quick load time after this change.

Thanks for the suggestion Joseph. I'm going to try and sort things out Friday.
