Skin eyelids

John,
Don't you love puns? ..or you hate them, but they won't go away. This
thread points out the weakness of the tech notes that come with IPAS6.
Explaining a morphing jar just doesn't do justice to the power of skin. Bill
and you have done much to clarify proceedures on complex objects. Of course,
there is still the issue of flaps of skin which many animals posses, not to
mention people, which I am not sure how to skin. What do you do with eyelids? I
assume a morph, but 3DS does not support morph around a center point like an
eyeball.
I am building a bat. Their skin shakes, flaps and wrinkles. This is a
real challenge. I will upload it if you like. Another DXF I made in Animation
Master.
Like to bat it around?

Well, yes…but I'd NEVER admit it in public (oops). The SF book 'McClindine's
Syndrome'(sp) by Robert Frezza had some of the best groaners I've seen in a
while.

Moreso Bill than myself; this is the first time I've ever done anything spine
based. Compiling Bill's posts has greatly helped increase my understanding.

I would, but I'm afraid I'd end up draggin' my feet ;^). Until I upgrade my
home system, I really wouldn't have the time to mess w/it. The dragon I did was
done after hours when I didn't have any projects going, and because it was
intended to be a fun experiment, I deliberately left off certain things;
eyelids being one (gave him gecko-style eyes). Also left off bat style wings;
while I could have done them, the extra time spent would have turned it work
:^). If your interested, I did do two simple animations w/the dragon (one of
the dragon breathing fire, one of a simple flight) that are availible in
GRAPHDEV (just keyword search stetzer or dragon); didn't upload 'em here
because I don't think they'd be of too much interest to anyone here. They're a
little unpolished, but they did provide some experience to apply to the r4
dragon, which should be a little bit better :^).
As far as eyelids, if you edit at the face/vertex level, you should be able to
get a 'correct' morph. Alternately, you could make a quarter circle in the
shaper/lofter, slice it, place the pivot points at the base (what would be the
center of the circle), and when you open the eyelid, scale up a couple of the
slices along the correct axis slightly nad you should get a slight fold effect
(don't know for sure, 'cause I haven't tried it). TTYL…

John,
I am trying to get the skin wing thing down. It is time consuming in
any program. My pet thing is animals so I'm faced with soft objects with flaps,
pockets that bulge, floppy ears, all that thin, hard to animate stuff. Try
doing a good floppy Basset hound, … an if you don't do that
impression,…(just kidding) I look forward to new draggon. The eyelid that
blends into the soft folds of the face is the ideal. I have tried sections of
hemispheres. I'll try the slices idea. Thanks.
