Hi,
I've just signed up to the Science/Maths forum, and want to fill you in on my
reasons for being here. I'm a writer/director for television, working out of
Dublin, Ireland. I'm working on a six part documentary series on the Geological
history of Ireland, and I may be posting dumb questions in the Geology section,
browsing library files, etc, to help me surmount this daunting task.

questions – there aren't any. Well, not any besides.. "Will this be on the
test?"…"I missed last week's class because I was on vacation. Did I miss
anything important?" and the like. <g>

I'd like to see it when you're done <g>. I worked in Ireland for about 3
months about 12 years ago doing geophysical exploration for massive sulfides.
I worked in the area around Limerick, from Ballybunion to Tynagh and elsewhere
nearby. I've enjoyed what little reading I've done on Irish geology but not
had the opportunity to really study it.
The toughest thing was working the standard US 60-hour field week (6 days * 10
hrs) with Irish crews who were limited by law (or triple-taxation on overtime
wages) to 40 hours/week. We just used three crew members for 4 days each to
cover the two crew positions. Hope things have changed some in the past
decade.
Although I'm Scottish-Welsh-English-German-Malay, I also have a little Irish
blood in the mongrel mix <g>.
